Stadia Beacon Review

Here at The Stadia Life, we are known for our hard hitting news and reviews, and today’s review is no exception. In fact, I’d say it’s the most important review yet. Today we’ll be reviewing the Stadia beacon.

The shape of the Stadia logo uses some bold and innovative design decisions. One of the astounding things you’ll likely immediately recognise is that the design both uses curved lines and straight lines. All in the same logo! It also makes use of acute angles and obtuse angles, rather daring I’m sure you’d agree.

The eagle-eyed among you may also notice that the pattern of the logo is in the shape of an S. This could be referencing many things, from S being the first letter of Stadia to S representing the sky, which is where clouds can be found. What else is cloud? The concept Stadia uses to deliver its gameplay. Coincidence? I think not.

Another fantastic feature of the Stadia logo is the fact that it’s not all one solid colour. That’s right, it’s a gradient! The top left of the image is hex value #fd4a18, a very pleasing orange-like colour, whereas the right-hand side of the image is #af0357, a colour that almost falls between pink and purple. Clearly, this smooth gradient is meant to represent the range of players that Stadia appeals to, from the hardcore players who will spend tens of hours a week in games to casual players who only play an hour a week. This is a very clever idea from the designers who created the logo, and just really shows the top talent that Google recruits.

Where the Stadia logo has huge positives in design, it also has huge drawbacks in performance. The logo only runs at one frame, far less than the 60fps performance that Google promised in the advertising. This really shows that Google has been lying to us all along and that Stadia truly is DOA. Upon learning this fact I threw my controller out of the window, and expect you to do the same.

While Google has been ambitious with the design of this logo, it is let down by its incredibly poor performance. Because of this, I can only give the Stadia logo 4 stars out of 5. I hope the Stadia team takes this chance to improve things for the future, but for now, I’m done with the Stadia.

4 / 5
