First thing this morning Mortal Kombat 11 has announced that they are testing out cross-play support exclusively for Xbox One and Playstation 4 players. This sucks for us on Stadia, obviously (seriously, wtf WB Games?), but still… since this feature is specifically a test run it does hint that support may be coming to additional platforms in the future.
Here’s the important bit quoted from their FAQ:
What is Krossplay in Mortal Kombat 11?
We are testing out a feature in Mortal Kombat 11 that will put PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players into the same matchmaking pool for Online Kasual game modes. PlayStation 4 and Xbox One players will also have the option of manually joining the same designated Krossplay Online Rooms to play against each other.
Will Krossplay allow PlayStation 4 or Xbox One players to fight against PC, Nintendo Switch or Stadia players?
No, the Krossplay feature in Mortal Kombat 11 will not support PC, Nintendo Switch or Stadia at this time.
I don’t know why they decided to leave PC, Switch, and Stadia out of this testing—especially PC to be honest—but I’m sure they have their reasons. Likely stupid reasons. All we can do now is kross our fingers and hope that support comes to Stadia (and our friends on Switch) when this feature leaves beta and officially launches.
