The day is here! Let’s take a look at the new stuff that was announced, and skip over all the stuff that isn’t relevant to Stadia!
Chromecast with Google TV
Sabrina is finally here! The new Google TV software looks pretty amazing, with a lot of new features and a much better looking interface than what we’re used to see on Android TV. It’s available right now in the USA for $49. Those of us in Canada are only able to pre-order at this time, sad face, and support for other countries is “coming by the end of the year.”
UPDATE: My Canadian pre-order is in, and has a shipping date of Oct 21st, so if that holds true, that’s not too far off!
Shortly after the reveal video, the official Stadia twitter account posted, adding that support for Stadia will be coming in the first half of 2021.
One thing we knew ahead of time was that Sabrina would not have an ethernet plug, which means you would have to rely on wireless which isn’t always the best choice for Stadia or 4K streaming. However, thanks to an interesting discovery spotted on the Google store (thanks Kitty), you can purchase an optional Ethernet Adapter for Chromecast with Google TV, which replaces the standard power plug with one that includes an ethernet port. Similar to the plug included with the Chromecast Ultra.
Pixel 5, Pixel 4a 5G
New phones are here! And to sweeten the pot, Google is including 3 months of Stadia Pro, Youtube Premium, 100gb of storage, Google One, and Play Pass all with the purchase of a new Pixel.
Not a lot of news that we didn’t already know about, but that was exciting! Now I gotta go get my orders in…
